Lois Steinberg Workshop in Berlin 2026

Due to high demand, registration is closed.

We (Claudia and Hermann) are delighted that Lois Steinberg has accepted our invitation to teach a workshop in Berlin over the first weekend of May 2026. We value Lois not only as a direct, dynamic, dedicated, and humorous teacher, but also as a dear friend with whom we share a decades-long friendship. As in the past—when Lois taught in Berlin thanks to the organization of Stefanie Roth, the workshop will be held at Tanzfabrik, Möckernstrasse, Kreuzberg. The focus of the workshop will be on the practice of asanas and pranayama.

Lois Steinberg

Lois Steinberg (Ph.D., CIYT Advanced 2, C-IAYT) is one of the most experienced Iyengar Yoga teachers in the world. She grew up in the greater Chicago area and later studied at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. She has been practicing Iyengar Yoga since the 1970s. Alongside her work as a specialist for children with emotional challenges (1978–1982), she began teaching yoga in her local community.

In late 1982, Lois embarked on her first year-long stay at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute (RIMYI) in Pune, India. During this initial year, she also had the privilege of assisting in the Institute’s medical classes. After returning to Champaign-Urbana, she began graduate studies in nutritional sciences, continued teaching yoga, and received a teaching assistantship allowing her to offer yoga classes to university students. Over the following nine years, she taught more than 3,000 students.

In 1992, Lois completed her Ph.D. and spent a year working in academia before dedicating herself fully to yoga. In 1999, Guruji awarded her the Advanced 1 certificate and granted permission to name her center Iyengar Yoga Champaign-Urbana.

Lois was later personally awarded the Advanced 2 certification by B.K.S. Iyengar. Her decades of intensive study with the Iyengar family include annual participation in the general and therapeutic classes at RIMYI.

Her teaching is characterized by enthusiasm, deep insight, and the wisdom gained from decades of practice and immersion in the work of B.K.S. Iyengar and his family. She places great emphasis on the holistic transformation of the body—and the joy that arises through regular practice. As a teacher, she is direct, dynamic, clear, focused, committed, gently humorous, and an invaluable guide to understanding yoga’s therapeutic potential.
